Description

About this title:

Three Hands Press is pleased to announce the release of Trutmezzer: A Blade of Two Ways by Frater Acher, known for his previous occult works such as Ingenium and Goêtic Atavisms. The book concerns the Witch’s Dagger in German folklore and sorcery, and is his most personal magical work to date.

Trutmezzer traces the function of the magical blade as a hidden key of the spirit world, and contemplates its array of powers, which extend far beyond its better-known functions of cutting and division. Central to the understanding of the blade’s power is the figure of the Trud, an oppressive nocturnal spirit sharing some attributes with the Witch, as well as the blade’s function as a gatekeeper between worlds.

In the second part of the work, the lore of the past is vivified in the present moment, as the author recounts his personal journey to find the Trutmezzer and learn its powers. In this process of acquisition and inquiry, a unique understanding of the magical blade and its governing spirit-intelligence is gained.

The book is graced with original illustrations by Rowan Cassidy and calligraphy by Delia Vico. It is 80 pages, printed via offset lithography in black ink with red spot color throughout.

Another scholarly work from a true practitioner of magic. Please do not let the page count of this book turns you away. Other than the usual Frater Acher's style of disposition on historical research, the author's research on the magical mind cannot be understated as it speaks of the stark differences of the mindset (the logical ratio) between folk magicians and modern practitioners; teaching us to set aside our abstract-logical thinking and allow our direct perception to take the lead, revealing immediate experiences—a form of intuitive understanding that feels deeply relatable.

Through this little book of less than a hundred pages, the answer of how a person could work with spirits of the celestial realm and chthonic spirits through goêtic framework simultaneously is unveiled. On the other hand, visionary magicians would find this book beneficial - to reference on Acher's visionary work and framework to use it as own for spirit contact, a generous work indeed.

An absolute delight to read. The first section dealing with the history of not just spirits and blades but their manufacture, and the often disregarded supernatural folk magic beliefs of rural communities. The second part of the book dealing with a more modern take on the dagger, or "Witch knife" as the book is so named in old German(Frater Acher's words, not mine). Its an easy read and delightful one at that and well worth it just for the personal account Frater Acher tells that closes out the book.
For a limited edition and hand numbered book from an independent publishing company, this is a great price for a collectors and fans alike.
