We are here, in The Scorpion God, introduced to the fourth tip of the Trident in the Depths, the Goddess Sepheranz. Though she is not encountered until fairly late in the tome, her presence in this world is already manifest to a large degree. Sepheranz is the Apocalyptic Goddess of War, Conquest and Flame, a no-nonsense Goddess who taught ancient humans. She is essentially a Goddess of evolution on Earth, ruling the pre-human era when the great reptiles walked the Earth. She is not Arachne, as many erroneously aver. Much can be gleamed from contact with Sepheranz through the gateways of this grimoire.
The rites of The Scorpion God are highly detailed and explicated in a very meticulous manner by the author, so that those who work the book start to finish do not encounter blind spots in their practical work. In addition, the author is very responsive, and having gone through all the rites and the subsequent trials unlocked by them, is helpful along this path.
Completion of the work from the first two volumes of the Trident Trilogy, Queen of Hell and The Red King, are pre-requisites for beginning the formal rituals in The Scorpion God. However, the book itself is consecrated in a manner that personalized work with the spirits of this grimoire, in particularly Sepheranz, is possible for a number of people. The pages of this book, like the others written by Smith, serve as gateways by which the Gods can see and read the soul of the person reading the book. During my own reading of the text, I felt my mind and soul becoming restructured to better align with the Gods and their kin. I’ve found that this restructuring, which can sometimes be uncomfortable from a physical standpoint, serves to enable the practitioner to enter the world within the book that is otherwise so alien and inimical to our own.
Belial, who is the God most featured here, is the protector who offers his spiritual scorpion armor, to those souls who traverse this unique path. The spirits here are not always the friendliest, to say the least, and the landscape is also very unusual, with rapid movements and shapeshifting as the norm from my own experience, but even doing side work through the gateways opened up to individual souls is very rewarding, and for me has greatly exceeded the benefits obtained from any other single grimoire I’ve worked. 9/10
IMO this is the shining star of the author's work. It's amazing, enlightening and-frankly- scary. It seems ironic, but in this reviewer's opinion, the previous volume and one's connection with LUCIFER "protects" you from Belial.
